HDR

This photo is also a work from during the photography course. The assignment was to make a surrealistic photo. Apart from the HDR effect that was added afterwards, no photo editing has been done here. The tablet is Ghost's own tablet at the time (dead for some time now) that was carefully put in the typewriter before taking the picture. The model is one of Ghost's fellow students. Personally, Ghost thinks this photo is one of his best ever, but opinions differ.

Nuclear coke is a series of photos where different bottles of Coca Cola are placed in the vicinity of a nuclear power plant with the typical cooling towers. In this case it's the nuclear power plant of Doel near Antwerp. Apart from the HDR effect that was added afterwards, no photo editing was applied here. The bottles are real, actually stand on that railing and are containing green Halloween make-up that Ghost dissolved in water. The three bottles can still be found in Ghost's house today, in the bathroom somewhere on top of a cupboard.

In 2015, the French theater company Royal de Luxe was a guest in Antwerp with their show 'The Giants'. This photo shows one of the many crew members, but shot from a frog's perspective, making him appear to be a giant himself. The original photo was converted to HDR afterwards.

No photo editing was used on this photo outside of the HDR effect. Ghost has effectively filled his own bathtub with water and added some green coloring to the water. How did he pull off the trick with the hand? Well, Ghost had a friend and made a bet with that friend that he wouldn't dare to lie down in a bath full of green water and stay under water for a full two minutes...Of course that's not true. Ghost doesn't reveal how he managed to do this, (just like magicians, photographers never reveal their tricks) except that all his friends, ex-girlfriends and relatives still have both hands.

Concrete stairs in a building of which only a few people know where it is. It is quite a famous building in Antwerp. This photo was actually taken by accident. Ghost was fiddling with his camera's settings and took this test shot to see if the settings were right. Some people even think this is one of the best photos Ghost has ever taken, although he doesn't really agree with that. The original photo was converted to HDR afterwards.

During one of his trips in the vicinity of the port of Antwerp, Ghost suddenly saw this heavily damaged (and probably partly burnt out) shipping container. By converting the photo to HDR afterwards, the whole thing got a really creepy view.

Ramses (sadly deceased in the meantime) was the cat of a friend of Ghost. An incredibly sweet and affectionate animal, although you might not immediately say so in this photo that was converted to HDR afterwards, and rather think of a devilish cat. He really wasn't, Ghost and Ramses sometimes had whole conversations with each other and liked to play with the laser pointer.

During a trip to the coastal municipality of Blankenberge, while walking on the pier, Ghost suddenly saw this image. A beach cabin with the name Katleen painted on it. Normally, these types of beach cabins are lined up next to each other on the Belgian coast. No idea why this one is so lonely and alone. No idea who Katleen is, Ghost has never met her, and does not know what has become of her (the beach cabin anyway). The original photo was converted to HDR afterwards.

This red painted house with advertisements for the online magazine Clint can be found in the village of Doel in Belgium. Doel is a ghost village where hardly anyone lives anymore (officially 110 people in 2022) because the government wanted to demolish all the houses in 1999 to expand the port of Antwerp. After years of litigation, that plan has finally been shelved, but the residents moved away from the village in 1999 - 2002 so that most of the facades are covered with graffiti because they have been empty for more than 20 years. The original photo was afterwards converted in HDR.

Ghost saw this red Porsche on one of his trips, took a photo and converted it into HDR.

A view of the Kattendijkdok in Antwerp, just after the sinking of the famous 'Badboot' in 2015. The Badboot was a floating swimming pool in the Kattendijkdok and was a top attraction in Antwerp, especially during the summer months. The floating basin of 120 by 25 meters was attached to a boat, but on September 18, 2015, it suddenly started to make water and sank. It was never clarified what caused it. Ghost went to take a look at the site the same day and took this photo. The original photo was converted to HDR afterwards.

Ghost took this photo of one of his friends and converted it into an HDR photo to give it a kind of ghostly glow. Because that friend is a musical actor and quite a fan of the writer Charles Dickens, Ghost decided to give the photo this specific title.

A photo that Ghost took during his photography training and more specifically in the portrait photography sub-course. It is actually a diptych where the same model (a friend of Ghost) also poses in front of an American flag as an 'all American girl'. The flip side of that is this photo with a female Russian soldier from the Soviet era. Ghost liked the idea of making a comparison between the two. A (relatively) free society versus a militaristic one as the Soviet Union was at the time. Ghost especially remembers how he cursed during this shoot because he couldn't get his flags nice and smooth because they had been folded in his bag. Unfortunately you can also see that in this photo. The original photo was converted to HDR afterwards.
